Arturo Perez Revert, Author: “There is one book that I always recommend, it’s called ‘Coral Island’, and another, ‘Lord of the Flies'”

After his success with Alatrist, Arturo Perez-Revert Returned to the adventure genre in his recently published novel ‘The Most Dangerous Hypothesis’. This time, the protagonist is sixteen years old and embarks on a sailboat in the Mediterranean with a father he has just met.

Just what young people can expect in an adventure novel, asked a student writer at a BBVA Learn Together talk. The author says that many of the genre’s classics have lost their audience, but some still hold up well. “There’s a book I always recommend called ‘Coral Island’.” “And another one called ‘Lord of the Flies,'” he added after summarizing the first novel.

In ‘Coral Island’ by RM Ballantyne, three boys survive a shipwreck and end up on an island in the Pacific Ocean. There they have to manage between the three of them. In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, the starting point is a plane crash. Only a group of schoolchildren survive and as the story progresses, Coexistence becomes violent.

At another point in the discussion, Perez-Revert explained to them what she thinks reading is for. If you’ve read and seen the world, he told them, it’s harder for someone to sell you something that’s so simple. “The more cultured you are, the more you’ve seen, the more you’ve lived, the more you’ve read, the more you’ve cared to see the world around you, the less manipulable you are, the less deceitful you are.”

Pérez-Revert believes that many of the adventure books read by his generation have lost their audience, although in the same speech he admits to the audience that if he had started writing at a young age, he would devote himself to writing now. Create scripts for video games.

“Adventure is always there,” he says in the same talk, though now the plot has changed.
