Bill Gates has expressed regret for “every moment” he spent with Jeffrey Epstein, but his ex-wife Melinda says the Microsoft co-founder still has many questions to answer about his relationship and time with the convicted sex offender.
Last week, the US Department of Justice released nearly three million pages of documents related to Epstein. The documents reveal Epstein’s close friendships with many famous people, illegal financial dealings and email communications. The documents also reveal many private photos.
In a draft email included in the documents, Epstein alleged that Bill Gates was involved in extramarital sex.
Bill Gates told Nine News that he met Epstein in 2011 and had dinner with him several times over the next three years. However, he never visited Epstein’s Caribbean island and had no relationships with women.
Epstein wrote that his relationship with Gates included helping Bill Gates obtain drugs, helping him deal with the aftermath of having sex with Russian women, and facilitating illicit relationships with married women.
“I regret and apologize for every moment I spent with him (Epstein),” Bill Gates said in an interview with Australia’s Nine News on Wednesday.
Bill Gates also said, ‘That e-mail was never sent. That e-mail is false. I don’t know what he was thinking there. Was he trying to attack me in some way?’
A spokesman for Bill Gates similarly denied such allegations after millions of files from the Epstein investigation were released. Epstein committed suicide in a New York jail in 2019.
Bill Gates’ spokesman said, “These documents only prove that Epstein was frustrated at not being able to maintain a relationship with Bill Gates. He would stoop as low as he had to to entrap and defame people.”
Amid the uproar over Bill Gates’ relationship with Epstein, Melinda has also spoken out. She said in an interview with US National Public Radio, “The release of these documents has brought back memories of some very, very painful moments in my married life.”
Melinda added, “Whenever the details of those things come out, it becomes quite difficult for me personally.”
Bill Gates and Melinda divorced in 2021.
Melinda said, “It’s not possible for me to know everything about any questions that may still be there. The questions are for the people involved or for my ex-husband. They have to answer all the questions about these matters, not me.”

Gates added, “The gist of our conversation was that Epstein knew a lot of wealthy people and said they could donate money to help with global health. But looking back, it didn’t really help.”
