We are so used to touching the screen that it hardly requires any thought. It’s something we constantly repeat with our phones and tablets, and something we’ve been able to do with many Windows laptops over the years. However, Apple decided to maintain a fairly clear separation between its devices: the iPad was designed to be used with fingers, while the Mac continued to rely on keyboards and trackpads. It was a distinction that was publicly defended by its own managers, even when other manufacturers combined both types of interaction on the same computer for some time.
The wait is over. Presented by Apple New 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros with PROLED XDR displays Tandem is based on OLED technology and, for the first time in Mac history, is compatible with direct touch interaction on the main screen. The computers also include Dynamic Island, hitherto absent from the company’s computers, and use the M5 Pro and M5 Max processors. They come with a thin and light design, but the innovation is not limited to the hardware: macOS 27 is also ready to interact with your fingers.
