While work continues to identify the victims of the Urda train crash, in Toledo, some relatives of the possible victims have been found Fake SMS in which someone impersonates a civil guard. The messages reported alleged identifications, but the armed establishment denied it had sent them and clarified that these communications were always private.
The clarification goes beyond the SMS reported by the family. In a video released on its official channels, its spokesperson explained that introductions are “personal and private, never via text message, WhatsApp or phone call.” That is, call or WhatsApp is not a valid way to receive this information.

The alert doesn’t just come from the Civil Guard. The Center for Data Integration (CID), comprising forensic experts and members of the security forces, has warned about this impersonation. To facilitate this process, the Civil Guard requested the cooperation of the first-degree relatives of the missing persons. They can provide information and DNA samples to authorized offices that help establish the identity of victims. The organization asked them to come as soon as possible to speed up their work and specified that if they have already provided their information to these offices, the agents will contact them when they get news.
Impersonating an organization through text messages is reminiscent of a practice known in cybersecurity cheerful. The National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE) explains that such fraud seeks to obtain information or compromised devices. In Urda’s case, however, what is confirmed is the impersonation of the Civil Guard for alleged identification. Not much detail about the content of the messages has been released or is known. Who is behind this communication? Or how you got relatives’ phone numbers.

Family members who need information can go directly to offices established by the Civil Guard in four cities: Madrid, in Batalla del Salado, 32; Seville, in Avenida de la Borbolla, 8; Córdoba, with entrance through Avenida de los Mozarabes; and Toledo, at Barber Avenue, 42. In addition, there are four helplines: 062 for the Civil Guard, 900 122 112 for the Castilla-La Mancha Emergency Service, 900 10 10 20 for Renfrew and 900 001 403 for Irio. These are all for information and assistance purposes, not for identification purposes
