Its municipal supplier Krefeld (SWK Energie) Sells electricity rates focused on gamers. is called Maingaming. And its website targets those who “use more and expect more.” For example, who has 4 pc computers with RTX 5090 at home. Or someone who charges 4 electric cars per day. But they all have the same light.
The company’s FAQ establishes the context in which this rate is attractive. It is designed for users who use more than 2,500 kWh/year. Whether for gaming, streaming or simply because they have so many devices running. It is an indicator value of profitability. Because the price is higher in the fixed portion compared to other rates, although the price per kilowatt is lower. In fact, if the cost is clearly lower, the website warns that the specific part is more important and perhaps another rate should be sought.
Prices vary depending on area and cost. The price on the Cologne page (3,500 kWh/year; 24-month contract) is 26.68 cents/kWh and 25.16 euros/month fixed (October 25, 2026). According to that page the basic supply in this area has a fixed cost of 31.48 cents/kWh and 262.67 euros/year. In Munich (in the same conditions), the price is 29.88 cents/kWh and 16.69 euros/month. So it makes little sense to talk about national averages. Additionally, prices vary by week.
It’s not the cheapest either.. In Cologne, the company claims that 228.75 euros are saved in the first year compared to the initial delivery (with a bonus of 100 euros). Without the bonus it would be 128.75 euros. It appears 18th out of 103 in the company’s own comparison table. The cheapest is about 70 euros less in this first year.
The cost that is calculated is for the whole house
Now comes the interesting part (at least if you have a powerful PC).. NVIDIA reports that the RTX 5090 has a total graphics power of 575 watts. Let’s say our entire equipment (including monitor) is 700W. If we play 30 hours/week, our annual consumption is 1,092 kWh. This is less than half of the threshold. Furthermore, in a family of two (living in an apartment with central hot water), the average consumption is 1,900 kWh/year. So, adding both figures, we have about 2,992 kWh. This is where the threshold is passed. It’s not PC.
With the data in the table (4.80 cents/kWh less than the basic supply in Cologne) for this 1,092 kW PC we would have a benefit of about 52 euros per year. Only if the rest of our costs offset certain fees.

On the other hand there are conditions. We can choose a 12 or 24 month contract (with different prices). Later it has no end date. It is also worth noting that the price guarantee (up to 24 months) is only for energy prices (ie they do not block taxes/surcharges). On the other hand, there is a new customer bonus (on this Cologne page it is 100 euros). This bonus is applied at the end of the first term. This is not deducted from the monthly fee.
This rate only works with regular home meters.. It does not work if we have an additional heating meter (two tariffs). Turnaround time is 2 to 6 weeks. It is the responsibility of the company to cancel the old contract.
Origin of renewable electricity

TThey also highlight that their light is renewable. On the tariff website they say it comes from hydropower plants in Europe. Which are backed by a guarantee of origin (backed by the quantity they supply). And they are certified every year by TÜV NORD CERT. They do not say that they physically come from these plants.
To understand what this attests, let’s look at the Spanish case.. The certificate is issued by the CNMC. On their CNMC blog they explain that the Guarantee of Origin is an electronic certification that a certain amount of electricity has been produced from renewable sources. It is a parallel system of electric current. “It is not possible to know the actual source of the electrons that reach home.”

Although it cannot be contracted in Spain, the procedure is exportable. First you need to know how much each item costs. In the Xataka home test, a device with an RTX 2070 was measured to consume 200.6 watts at full performance. The RTX 5090’s graphics reach 575 W (graphics only).
It is important to measure the cost of our equipment. The second step is to analyze our annual costs (that of invoices). It’s the information that really counts. For this we can use the CNMC comparator.
