At Xataka we don’t usually talk about video game notes. Personally, I don’t like it too much because I prefer to read a text and form an opinion about it.
Our colleagues at Vidaextra and 3DJuegos have long since stopped giving notes, as have Eurogamer and other media outlets, but among those with a small number of analytical evaluations there is a definite consensus on something: the remake of ‘The Legend of Zelda’: Ocarina is perfect.
To the point that it became one of the highest-rated games in history. again
Defeat the enemy of time
Analyzing a remake, even one as highly faithful as this one, is tricky. Do you treat it like a new game? Do you value that something changes or vice versa, nothing changes? Do you only look at life improvements and visual changes?
Fortunately, it’s not my job to answer these questions and you’d better take a look at the analytics. My colleagues at Vidaextra and 3DJuegos have already said what they have to say about the game, and it’s clear that this is a title that stands out from the best, but there’s something else: Metacritic 96.

Metacritic is what it is: a ratings aggregator. It’s good to have a look at the opinions of the specialized press, but that’s it, a website where notes appear However, there are some companies that give it a lot of importance, such as PlayStation which at least sets a Metacritic score goal in advance.
And, in the case of the remake of ‘Zelda Ocarina of Time’, the average score of 96 after 87 analyzes is an absolute outrage that elevates it to the “Olympus” of note.
has been taken An extraordinary amount of perfect notesEquivalent to ‘Half Life’, ‘Skyrim’, ‘Gran Turismo’, ‘Taken 3’, ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’, ‘Uncharted 2’ or ‘Metal Gear Solid 2’, but not ‘The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Walker’ or ‘Zed Kingdom’ with equal scores.
Curiously, however good its grade, it is three points behind the best game in history…
It is the only game with a 99 average (with “only” 22 reviews) and that makes perfect sense because it’s not only one of the most influential games in history, but a seminal one.

It was so ahead of its time that, by adding some quality-of-life improvements and that visual wash, the remake perfectly maintains the type. It is clear that it turned out very well, but now the curiosity is to see what will happen when the analysis of ‘GTA VI’ comes out. ‘GTA V’ has a 97 and ‘GTA IV’ a decent 98 on Metacritic.
Ultimately, the title of “Game of the Year” will already be up for grabs at the GOTY Gala, but it won’t be until we find out which of the two has earned the most perfect mark. But hey, whatever the case, in the case of ‘Ocarina of Time’, Alberto Pasteur of 3DJuegos sums up the experience in a spectacular way: A game that has stood the test of time.
