Microsoft has just released Windows 11 26H2, its annual update to its operating system that includes performance improvements, new customization options and AI-related functions. However, this particular version has a peculiarity, since many of its new features were already available through monthly updates released by the company.
Redmond Farm detailed in its official announcement, Windows 11 26H2 is distributed through an Enablement PackA lightweight file that activates functions already present in the system. This allows you to install updates with fewer downloads and, on most supported computers, a single reboot that doesn’t require a full installation.
How to install Windows 11 26H2 and what to do if you choose to wait
Start menu, AI tools and customization possibilities are three improvements that were already there. In addition, some features depend on PC hardware or progressive deployment, so Upgrading to 26H2 does not guarantee that they will appear immediately.
At the moment, the update is available for devices compatible with Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2, but Microsoft has confirmed that it is distributing it in stages. To check if you can install it, go to Settings > Windows Update > Check for updatesAlthough you can enable the option to get the latest updates as they become available

Windows allows you to temporarily delay updates if you prefer to check for compatibility issues first. Also, don’t forget that the company itself explains in its official support guide that it is possible to set a recovery date of up to 35 days by following these steps:
- Click Start and open Settings.
- Enter the Windows Update section.
- Locate the Pause Update option.
- Select a resume date, up to 35 days, or use the duration menu available in your version.
- Check that Windows Update indicates that updates have been stopped
Once the set date is reached, Windows will again search for and install pending updates. While delaying them can help avoid some early problems, it means postponing security fixes. Therefore, it is recommended to periodically review the status of Windows 11 26H2 and not postpone its installation indefinitely.
